About Strasburg, Lancaster County PA!
Strasburg, PA was founded in1693 by a Frenchman, Pierre Bezaillion, hunter and fur trader. French Huguenots from the Alsace region settled there to trade with the Indians. In 1700 the town was named Strasbourg, after the cathedral city in Alsace. In the 1700s the Amish began farming in the area. Noted today for the Strasburg Railroad and Rail Museum, Strasburg draws thousands of tourists each year. The railroad was chartered in 1832 and taken over and preserved by the Strasburg Railroad Company in 1957. It can be reached by taking route 896 south from route 30.
